COCONUTS… Better With Age
Meriden is not world renowned as the birthplace of any fine wines or exotic
cheeses but it can claim bragging rights for having spawned something
else which improves with age, the comedy-rock band,

COCONUTS:
For over thirty years this trio of madcap musicians, who are all former residents of the
Silver City, has been entertaining audiences from Cape Cod to the Florida
Keys with its unique and irreverent blend of music and comedy. The band’s
good-time party vibe and energetic performance style has not diminished
in the least over the years and its comedic punch has matured as has the
musicianship of its members, Joe Beetz, Sal Monella and Johnny Eagle.
COCONUTS is still the band that proves “Comedy Rocks!”
“A Night to Remember With the Band You Won’t Forget” will take you musically
from the 50s to the present day with songs of The Beatles, The Four Seasons,
Paul Simon, The Eagles, Harry Chapin and Smashmouth, among others. There are
always plenty of sing-alongs and opportunities for audience participation.
Interspersed amidst the “legitimate” musical numbers are COCONUTS’ rocking
parodies, turning the originals into songs about diets, history, stress, restaurants,
sexual dysfunction and other medical woes of the Baby Boomer generation.
COCONUTS is always writing new material and working up its own versions of
classic rock tunes. Creativity keeps the band’s show fresh and, with a repertoire
of hundreds of songs and routines to choose from, there are always surprises,
even for die-hard fans.
If you haven’t seen COCONUTS in one of it’s recent shows or have never seen the
band at all, you owe it to yourself to be at the Saint Rose Community Center on
Center St. in Meriden on Friday, February 26. The cabaret style event is a benefit
for the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center. Doors open at 7 PM and the show starts
at 8. Tickets are $20 and are available online at www.curtisculturalcenter.org or
by calling (203) 639-2856. Tables can be purchased and seat up to eight. BYOB
and food.
